Construction- logo design






















This is the logo i have designed for my artist. A logo is very important as it introduces the audience to the artist and reveals the identity of the artist too. The different aspects of the logo such as the colours used in the logo, name of the artist and the font allow the audience to get to know my artist. As one of the messages of my music video is to portray the femininity and female empowerment as having the female the protagonist in my music video, the colour used in the logo such as pink, orange and purple are also used with the idea to reinforce the idea of female dominance that i am portraying with my video. As the mood of the song is positive and optimistic throughout, excluding the disequilibrium moment the colours i have used in the logo are mainly saturated colours except the black colour of the eyeliner, which will therefore reflect the positivity of the song and music video. Furthermore, the colour orange symbolises passion which therefore links to the love between the 2 main characters in the video as their friendship progresses and turns into a relationship. Furthermore, orange symbolises domination. This will link to the idea of female dominance that i am aiming to express through my music video being supported by the use of this colour. However, the colour orange also symbolises distrust which is evident in disequilibrium in the video, when the protagonist sees the boy with another girl and therefore begins thinking that he is talking with another girl, leading to her loosing trust in him, which is gained back later on in the video. The black colour in the logo of the eyeliner is very contrasting to the other colours used therefore it makes the saturated colours stand out even more.

Construction- Final music video and Evaluation

Final Music Video





The video above portays the final music video version which has been uploaded to YouTube.

After constructing my music video, i have found out a number of errors that occured while i was shooting the clips.
These errors can be seen in terms of the ISO i used when shooting the clips for the video. I identified that the ISO i have used when shooting the video is too low in some of the clips. Therefore, this has resulted in some of the shots being grain and not very clear. However, i attempted to solve this problem using the editing features of the programme Premier Pro. For example, by changing the lighting of these shots in specific and increasing the brightness, whites and using the colour curves i have tried to reduce the grains of the clips. In addition to this, i used the Gaussian Blur, so i can blur to some extent some clips in the video. By including Gaussian Blur i blurred some of the shots which led to the reduction and disappearance to osme extent of the grains. However, if i had to the opportunity to re-shoot some of the clips, what i would do is set a higher ISO of the camera so the clips will be free of grains.
Another problem, that has occured while shooting the clips is that in some parts of the video the camera gets out of focus as the settings of the camera were set to `manual`.Therefore, if i was to shoot these shots again i would make sure that the camera would be focused throughout shooting of all clips to prevent errors as such from reocurring.
Furthermore, in order to shoot all of the clips needed in order to construct the full music video of 3minutes i had 2 shooting days. The first shooting day was on the 29.10.2019 whereas the second shooting day was 18.02.2020. Therefore, during this period of time, one of my actors- the first female actor who is the protagonist had changed their hairstyle and therefore when on the second shooting day in the clips she appeared with a different hair colour. However, as this was out of my control, there wasn`t a specific action i could have taken in order to prevent this from happening. However, i have made it clear to the audience and portrayed the fact that the character is the same and the only her visual looks in terms of the hairstyles have changed.
Also, as i did not use a tripod for all of the shot, this resulted in the camera not being steady for all of the shots therefore making some of the clips shaky. What i could have done is used a tripod for all of the shots so the shots can be as a steady as possible and reduce any clips looking shaky. I tried to resolve this issue, by applying `warp stabiliser` to the shots where it was visible that the camera was shaking, which slowed down the speed of these clips and stabilised them so unwanted shaking was reduced.

Relation to statement of intent 
Relating this to my statement of intent, i have successfully implemented most of the suggestions i have put forwards in the statement of intent.
For example for the music video i portrayed how the representation of the main female character confroms to the theory of Van Zoonen as she is rperesented as very emotional as she is upset, jealous and angry when she sees the male character with another girl, showing how females are much more emotional in comparison to males. Also this can be seen once more in the state of disequilibirum when the two characters are talking on the phone and when the female picks up the phone she seems very angry after what she saw, whereas the male does not seem as emotional as she is.
The clothing of the male as suggested in the statement of intent, was a suit in the ending of the video which therefore portrayed him as professional and formal acting as well as a counterstereotype to Gilroy`s theory of black males being portrayed in the media as poor, from gangs and informal.
In my music video i used a number of products such as a red lipstick, powder and lip-gloss which are examples of symbolic codes which represent the idea of femininity and therefore construct the meaning of what `female` is, relating to Butler`s theory. The use of these codes, makes it evident that media lamguage is present in my music video product.
Other codes, which i have said i would use in order to make media language further evident as being used are the colour patterns in the typography such as the credits in the video as well as the chnage of lighting. The lighting change is clear as in the ending if the music video as the male and the female are in the setting of the restaurant the lighting is pinker and i have edited the clips by increasing their tint and temperature which therefore conveys the romance between the two characters and therefore shows how the equilibirum has been re-stored and they are now in good relations. Furthermore, what i have used in the music video that  have not mentioned that i would like to use/do in the statement of intent is portraying Godwin`s theory of lyrics being linked to visuals. This can be seen in my music video when the the lyrics of the song states `you` and the female character point at the camera at the same time. This also occurs when, in the beginning of the video when the lyrics states `go shopping` the female character is going shopping too, showing how the lyrics matched the visuals and the actions of the characters my music video product.



In order to show the presence of media industry in the fianl version of my music video i have included opening and closing credits. In the opening credits i have embedded the artist logo whereas in the closing credits the production company design and name is present too. Also, the closing credits consist of information such as the director, the name of the actors, production company name and camerawork. In my second media product the logo and production ompany name is also present which therefore is evidence between the synergy and collaboration of the two products.


The font/typography used in the written codes such as the closing and opening credits and in the subtitles of the vide is `Tahoma`. I have used the same typography for the text in the website too. The most visible colours in the music video product are the saturated colours such as light pink and clips where the lighting has been changed to being pinker. Similar colours have been used in the construction of te website page. These features, show how the 2 media products are linked to each other.


For the target audience, the target age demographic of 16-25 year olds as mentioned in the statement of intent has been shown in my music video because the 3 actors all fall under the target age ctaegory, representing the lower, middle and the uper part of the category of 16-25 year olds.

However, as mentioned in the statement of intent i was planning to embed the logo/design of the production company name, however i did not embed it in the music video as my intent was. Therefore, as i could not embed the design of the production company name i mentioned the name of the production company at least ``MKA`s production`s.

In the end of the video as the closing credits appear, there are 3 black video screens with the name of the song and therefore there is a clip in the background for each of the black screen. The clips used in the black screens are clips form the music video in chronological order. For the 1st black screen the clip behind will be of the girl, for the 2nd the clip will be of the boy and for the 3rd and last one just as the video finished the clip in the background will be of both the girl and boy walking of the screen together where the video cuts. This shows the use of Barthes enigma code as it creates tension as the video ends at a cliff hanger. The clips for the black screen were put in this order to show that the narrative of the video will be in chronological order and also to portray how the friendship between the two characters has progressed into a relationship.

Linking my music video to the textual analysis (Prezzi)
Prior to shooting my music video and therefore constructing it i have done 2 textual analysis on Prezzi, which are located in the label `Research- music video`. The way i have linked the textual anaysis to my music video is by adopting some of the ideas from what identified by analysing the two songs. For example, when i was analysing the song `Hurts like hell` by Madison Beer, i have idenfitied that the song uses lyrics linked to visuals. For example, when the lyrics states `bring me down` at the same moment the video of the song shows how the male hits the giril and therefore she falls down on the floor. Also, the lighting used in her song at about 45 seconds into the song is quite similar to the lightig used in the opening clip of my music video as it is quit red and pink. When the lyrics states `i hope it hurts like hell` at the ending of the video the boy is tied up and there is fire close to him which shows how he will be hurt very soon linking the lyrics to the visuals.Therefore, i have lyrics linked to visuals in my video too when the female points at the camera when the lyrics states `you`.

Whereas, linking my video to the other textual analysis that i have done for the song ``Instagram`` by Natti Natasha, what i have adopted into m music vidoe is the variety of shots that the music video of the song consists of. For example i have used a variety of shots such as wide shots, close up shots, extreme close up shots, medium long shot.

My website consists of 1 page- `Home`. In order to add this in the `Menus & pages` in the `Site menu` i have added this page. Most of the website and including Cardi B`s website in my website research consist of 1 page. This therefore shows how my website conforms to established codes and conventions in terms of the layout and design as my website consists of 1 page too.



In the options bar under `Add` and when choosing `text` i was able to add any text that i wanted into the website.








After i added my text in order to create a menu bar under the `design` and then `customise deisgn` and then `text` i had the opportunity to edit the design of the text such as the font, the size, the colour and other options.

The font that i choose was `Tahoma` in order to link it wih my music video as the font used in the music video is `Tahoma` as well. The size of the font was changed to 30 in order to make it large enough so it can be clearly seen by the audience that is going through the website. The text is `bold` and in `sans serif` which therefore portrays and makes the website appear formal which is also the target. The colour that i have chosen is `white` which therefore makes the text stand out as the colour of the background is black, creating a contrast.
Written codes of the website such as in the text of the menu bar options are in either white in order to make them stand out as well as emphasise the formality of the website.





In order to make each one of the labels included in the menu bar i used a `Strip`. I have used the `classic strip` which is the simple version and design of the strip however i was able to change the design of the ctrip such as the colour, the location and adjust the size.


And in order to insert the images that symbolise previous songs of the artist under `add` then `gallery` and then `more galleries` i have chosen the `3D carousel` desing gallery. I have chosen this design as it is interactive and allows the audience to choose the song they would like to get detail about by clicking on the image. Also, the interacitve design allows the audience/person that is visiting the website to change the picture to the next one by clicking on the next one. The interactive designs allow the audience to engage with the website.



In order to add the social media links i had to select `add` then ``social` and finally `social bar` option. I have added all of the most famous social media websites that the target audience of 16-25 year olds use in contemporary society. For the `YouTube` social media link i have linked the button with a link to the music video, therefore clicking on the `YouTube` icon will forward you to YouTube and play the music video. This establishes a relationship between the music video and the website as when the audience is looking through the website they will be able to stream the music video too.



I have embedded the music video to the website. Furthermore, after embedding the music video to the website i have also created a `button`- `stream now`. Therefore, when clicking the button `stream now` this will take the person looking through the website to the official music video too.


I have created a footer of the website where i have mentioned the important information about the website. This includes the production compny name that the artist is signed to. In also, includes a phone number and an email to get in contact with the artist or to express any enquiries.



In the following strips used for the `hover box` i have used a variety of colours such as the light and baby pink and the peach colour. Theeese colours i have used in order to express the idea and ideology of feminism as the colour palette is linked to females and therefore femininity as the colours are saturated and warm colours.
As the target demographic is 16-25 fun and loving audience, it is most suitable and appropriate to use more saturated colours, as audiences as the target audience will be looking for lighter and more positive backgrounds. I will contrast the black background for some of the strips with using white texts over them so they stand out.



At the top of the website, in the strips i have added 3 collumns so i can include 3 photos to introduce the audience with the artist that the website is of.




For the headline of the website which is the name of the artist `Kxhlani` i have changed the size of the headline to 56 px, with the typeface remaining as `Tahoma`. Thsi therefore, shows a text hierarchy as the font size for the menu bar options is 30 px. As the larher font of the is used for the headline- artist name and the slightly smaller for the options in the menu bar this communictes to the audience that the font size of the headline is larger as it is more important so it can introduce them to with the artist.



I have further used a range of animation effects to change the way that the different texts appear in the website and the duration of how long it takes to appear. For most of the texts i have used the `Float in` animation so the text appears on the website in the following way.

Website conclusion

The way i have linked my website to the website research is through the choice of the layout.

In my website i have used a range of colour palettes as a technical conventions ranging from black, pink, orange and more. The use of this colour palette links the design of my website to my website research of Cardi B`s website.
There are a variety of ways through which my product 1 and product 2 link. For example this can be seen through the use of the same typography which is `TAHOMA`. In my website i have used this typography for the headlines, whereas in the music video i have used the typography in the title of the video as well as in the captions i have included when the first female actor and the male are having a conversation.

Furthermore, another factor that shows the relationship between the website and the music video is the logo that has been embedded in both the website- top of the page and in the music video. This therefore, shows the collaboration between the two and that they work together.

However, as i did not embed the production company design as i have suggested in my statement of intent, what i did is thhat i mentioned the name of the production company in the Footer of the website, whereas in the music video i have embedded the design of the production company and also mentioned the name `MKA`s Production Studio` in the closing credits of the music video. This also conveys the connection between the 2 products as in both products it is shown and mentioned that the artist Kxhlani works is signed to MKA`s Production Studio.

Moreover, i have used a variety of colours in the website as mentioned. However, the colours used are mainly saturated and warm colours which work together with the video in order to portray the pisitivity of the video. The warm and saturated colours are used in the `strips` of the website, therefore they link to the colours used in the music video. For example, in the opening clips of the music video, the shots were edited by increasing the temperature and tint and therefore the black video in the first-opening shot allows the title of the name of the song appear in pink. The same colour- pink has been used in the website too. This shows how the 2 products link with each other.

In order to link my website to the website research i have conducted prior to the construction of my own website, i have used a scrolling effect in my website which links to Tee Grizzley`s website. In his website, in the first page his logo changes as you scroll down, therefore in my website, as you i would scroll down the pictures will move as i scroll down too.
